If you are interested in a dynamic, progressive law firm that provides a range of professional services available from larger firms—combined with the personal attention and service offered by smaller firms—consider Doucet McBride.

We offer a well-rounded articling experience for students by involving them in all aspects of the civil litigation process and all areas of our practice.

We offer services in both English and French and regularly represent our clients before the courts in both official languages.

Hands-on Experience

At Doucet McBride, students have the opportunity to work on all stages of the litigation process, including:

  • Initial client meetings and discussion of retainers
  • Carriage of Small Claims Court matters
  • Drafting pleadings, affidavit and motion materials, mediation briefs, and facta
  • Attendance on interlocutory motions
  • Attendance at court proceedings with counsel
  • Attending on examinations for discovery with counsel
  • Assisting in trial preparation
  • Preparing research memoranda

Students are responsible for cases and for conducting trials in Small Claims Court, hearings before administrative bodies, and procedural motions in Superior Court. Articling at Doucet McBride does involve some research, but students also have client contact and as much hands-on practical experience as they can handle.

Flexibility

Although there is no formal rotation, we expose our articling students to all areas of our practice and they have an opportunity to work with various lawyers. We do try to accommodate students’ specific areas of interest.

Competitive Compensation

Doucet McBride offers a competitive compensation and benefits package.

Mentorship

We match each of our students with a lawyer to whom they can address their specific questions and concerns.  Our students also learn from their mentors’ experiences as students and as new lawyers. Our open-door policy means students are free to discuss any concerns about the practice of law with any of our professionals.

We continue to mentor new lawyers at Doucet McBride long after they are called to the Bar, to assist their transition into practice.
