Percy Ostroff

Percy’s practice is focused on complex and sensitive business issues of all types, including bankruptcy and insolvency, tax, shareholder, director, partner, franchise, landlord/tenant, and debtor/creditor matters. He is also actively involved in related commercial transactional matters, such as financings and corporate and creditor restructurings. Clients benefit from Percy’s in-depth technical knowledge and practical, business approach to resolving multifaceted commercial disputes.

A partner with Doucet McBride since 1996, Percy was certified as a specialist in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 2002. He played a key role in drafting the amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act in 1992 and was a member of a Working Group for the federal government’s Bankruptcy and Insolvency Advisory Committee.

Percy was the senior instructor in the debtor/creditor section of the bar admission course and taught the bankruptcy and insolvency law course at the University of Ottawa for many years. He is a frequent speaker and presenter on bankruptcy and commercial law topics. He is also the founder and principal of Equinox Commercial Dispute Solutions Inc., a company specializing in the arbitration and mediation of commercial disputes.

Percy has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Master of Arts from McGill University. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario’s Law Faculty in 1986 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988.

Marc C. Doucet
Lawyer

Marc co-founded Doucet McBride in February 1993. Before that, he was an associate with a well-established Ottawa law firm, where he practised primarily in the area of construction litigation.

Marc’s clients operate at all levels of the construction industry. Fluently bilingual, Marc advises and represents clients in a variety of construction-related legal matters, including bonding, bidding, contracts, delay and/or impact, labour, safety and Occupational Health and Safety Act issues. Marc also lectures and conducts seminars for various professional and business associations on matters of interest to the construction industry.

Marc graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1981 (Bachelor of Arts, Psychology and Sociology concentrations), 1984 (License in Civil Law) and 1985 (Bachelor of Common Law) and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1987.

The father of two children entering their teens, Marc is an avid golfer, cyclist and skier.

 

Ian McBride
Lawyer

Who We Help

Ian co-founded Doucet McBride in February 1993 and is currently the firm’s managing partner. A litigator with a wide-ranging, results-oriented practice, Ian divides his time between disputes in the construction/commercial field, disputes arising from professional negligence claims, employment law and personal injury matters. His personal injury work includes claims arising from motor vehicle collisions, slip and fall accidents and other negligence claims.

Ian obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Alberta in 1985 and a law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1991. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993.

An active community volunteer, Ian is a Trustee of the County of Carleton Law Association and sits on the Association’s Executive committee.

Ian and his wife enjoy touring Eastern Ontario and West Quebec on their motorcycles.

 

John Hollander
Lawyer

John joined Doucet McBride in 2001 and is a member of the firm’s Personal Injury, Financial Loss Recovery and Wills and Estates practice groups.
He has practised law in Ottawa since 1978, primarily as a civil litigator and trial counsel, with concentrations in personal injury, financial loss recovery and estates law. Since 2001, John has added estate planning, wills and testamentary trusts, and powers of attorney to his litigation practice. In 2000, he took a one-year hiatus from the practice of law to help establish a start-up technology company.
John has conducted hundreds of trials and has appeared frequently in the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Divisional Court of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. He has also lectured at Carleton University and presented at the prestigious Canadian Institute.
In November 2005, John was selected as one of ten members of the newly formed Investor Advisory Committee established by the Ontario Securities Commission. During his two-year term he helped identify and address issues affecting investors.
John is responsible for the mentoring and advocacy training programs at Doucet McBride. He also includes young lawyers from other firms in his innovative Advocacy Club, which fosters both skills and collegiality. John presents courses that train young lawyers to deal with expert witnesses, and he is in the process of developing a training program in interviewing skills for professionals outside law.

 

Roger J. Ramonat
Lawyer

Roger practises in the areas of taxation, corporate reorganizations, estate planning and all aspects of corporate and commercial transactions.

Roger articled and practised in Toronto until 1989, including working in the national tax department of a major accounting firm. Since 1989, he has practised in established Ottawa law firms as an associate and as a partner. Roger joined Doucet McBride in 2005.

Roger obtained his law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1982 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984.

J. Alden Christian
Lawyer

Alden’s areas of practice include insolvency and receivership matters, mortgage enforcement, debtor/creditor disputes, banking, and corporate and commercial litigation. He has appeared before all levels of court, including the Ontario Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of Canada. Alden has also lectured in the debtor/creditor rights section of the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Course.

Alden practised with an established Ottawa law firm for a number of years prior to joining Doucet McBride in 1995. He soon became a partner of the firm.
Alden obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours) from the University of New Brunswick in 1979 and graduated from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University in 1983. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985.
