“Hands-on Experience”
At Doucet McBride, articling students have the
opportunity to work on all stages of the litigation
process:
- initial client meetings and discussion of
retainers
- attendance at court proceedings with counsel
- preparing research memos
- drafting pleadings, affidavit and motion materials
and facta
- attendance on interlocutory motions
- drafting mediation briefs
- attending on examinations for discovery with
counsel
- assisting in trial preparation
Students are individually responsible for cases
and for conducting trials in Small Claims Court
and hearings before the Ontario Rental Housing
Tribunal. Students also conduct procedural motions
in Superior Court. Articling at Doucet McBride
does involve some research, but students will
have client contact and as much “hands-on”
practical experience as they demonstrate they
are capable of handling.
Flexibility
Although there is no formal rotation, our articling
students are exposed to all areas of practice
of the firm and they work with each lawyer. We
do try to accommodate any areas of specific interest
which our articling students may have.
